Abstract: Pluralistic identities have become increasingly common, yet the shared stigma experiences of these groups go relatively unrecognized. Here we highlight the shared experiences of pluralistic groups using examples within the Multiracial, Multicultural, Bisexual+, and Transgender communities. We highlight why those with pluralistic identities should be uniquely considered regarding stigma-based experiences in addition to identifying three unique coping strategies (Affirm, Find, and Expand (AFE)) that may assist these communities in buffering themselves from stigma-related social threats. The AFE approach underscores the importance of developing identity-specific strategies that address the core psychological needs among those with pluralistic identities.
