| Biographical Info of Pietro F. PerettoPietro F. Peretto has been a professor for the department of economics at Duke University since 2009. Prior to becoming a full professor, he was an associate professor from 2001-2009 and an assistant professor from 1994-2001. He is also the current Director for the Program on Determinants of Growth, Innovation and Technological Progress within the Innovation Center at Duke. Professor Peretto earned his Ph.D. in economics from Yale University in 1994, and studied at Bocconi University in Milan until 1988. Before beginning his teaching career, he served in the military from 1989-1990.Professor Peretto has taught both graduate and undergraduate courses on the subjects of macro/international finance, macroeconomic analysis, and economic growth. His research delves deeper into these areas to explore such subjects as industrial organization, technological change, international trade, market structure, the environment and natural resources. He recently received a generous DOE grant to conduct research for his project entitled, “Carbon Policy and Induced Technical Change: Market Structure, Increasing Returns, and Secondary Benefits” with Kerry Smith. Professor Peretto has published his ideas and findings in over twenty papers and articles. His most recent writings include, “Sustaining the Goose that Lays the Golden Egg: A Continuous Treatment of Technological Transfer” with M. Connolly and N. Sà, “Energy Taxes and Endogenous Technological Change”, and “The Manhattan Metaphor” with M. Connolly. His work has been published in numerous prestigious academic journals, including the Scottish Journal of Public Economy, the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, the Journal of Economic Growth, and many others. He is currently undergoing research on several projects, exploring such subjects as sustainable growth, “deaths, births, and economic growth,” resource scarcity, job creation, and intra-industry trade. In addition to publishing, Professor Peretto has also presented his research findings throughout the world. In 2008, he visited the University of Zurich, the University of Glasgow, Venice International University, the University of Pisa, the European University Institute, and the Einaudi Institute for Economics and Finance to present a talk entitled, “Technology, Population, and Natural Resources: A Theory of Takeoff and Convergence to Sustainable Growth.” Since he began traveling to share his work, he has given over twenty different presentations at over seventy locations nationally and internationally. Along with his teaching and research, Professor Peretto is also a member of the American Economic Association, the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory, the European Economic Association, and the Society for Economic Dynamics. | |
