Research Categories: Marine ecology and fisheries. Population and community ecology. Endangered species/fisheries conflicts, especially sea turtles and bycatch in fishing gear. Marine conservation biology and policy. International affairs.

Research Description: Dr. Crowder's research centers on predation and food web interactions, mechanisms underlying recruitment variation in fishes, and on population and food web modeling in conservation biology. He develops models and statistical analyses to assist in endangered species management, particularly for sea turtles, seabirds, and marine mammals. Recent research has focused on assessing and mitigating the impacts of bycatch on protected marine species, on the impacts of nutrient loading on estuarine and coastal ecosystems, and on the need for national ocean policy reform to include ecosystem-based management and marine spatial planning.
